Fall sewing

We have been going craft crazy over here! Last week I made her all of these adorable things!

I intended for this to be a dress but then decided it would make a cute bubble top with some black leggings or some festive Halloween ones! I also think I'm going to go back and add straps.
Im still in the process of making this one but I had to share. I saw this fabric a while ago and have been trying to think what to make with it and I finally decided on a dress. I'm thinking this will be her outfit on October first because I can't justify her wearing Halloween clothes before then.

This is probably my favorite thing I have ever made or will ever make! I love when I don't have to put her in "baby" clothes. I just want her to wear regular clothes in baby sizes sometimes but it is really difficult to find. At least without the big price tag. She was in a wiggly mood and would not let me get a good picture of it but it's an adorable peplum top with a black lacy leather panel down the middle. I wish she could wear it everyday! And yes, I bought enough fabric to make myself one too :)

Vacation!

Laila has officially been on a plane!

She slept through take off and most of landing and only fussed one time for maybe 15 seconds. I was really nervous about taking a baby on a plane but as always she was such a good girl. She loved watching the clouds and all the tiny buildings fly by below her.
We're currently in Minnesota visiting our cousins, and having so much fun. My cousin had a little boy 2 years ago and I just got to meet him so already that is the highlight of the trip. He is probably the cutest boy I have ever met and he loves Laila! The first day we got here I went downstairs to change her and he came running down to find baby. As soon as he found her he gave her approximately 10 million kisses. The highlight of Laila's trip is definitely Queen, the dog. As soon as we got to the farm she wouldn't say hi to anyone because she was just staring at Queen and giggling up a storm. She even got a big doggie kiss right on the face and just thought it was the greatest thing. We've been playing outside a lot and she can't get enough of it!

On our second day we got to go out to Lake Minnewaska and go on the pontoon! It was mine and Laila's first time, I don't even think I'd ever seen one before. She was a little fussy because it was nap time and as always she just wanted to eat. At the beginning of the ride she had a good time playing with Kolton and looking at the water.

(doesn't he look so excited lol)

The third day was my absolute favorite!!! I am in love with rain and the Midwest gets the best storms. I actually woke up Laila so she wouldn't miss it because I was so excited.

                  Look at those clouds!!!

Our mandatory picutre in front of all the rain and Laila's sleepy face.

We have pretty much just been relaxing around the house for most of the trip but we've had 2 trips to Target. In my fall excitement you better believe I bought Hocus Pocus on sale for $7.99! I can't wait for it to be acceptable to watch it at least once a week.

                                    Bow,dress,tights

My mom has been wanting Laila to have a pair of overalls for so long now so I finally caved and bought them for her farm trip. I must admit she looks pretty darn cute. :)

More adventures coming when we get home. :)

DIY cat ears

Yes, I'm aware it's only July, but I am so ready for fall! It is my favorite season! Today I was making Laila this adorable little tulle flower for a headband when I got a great idea, tulle cat ears!
( find the flower tutorial here http://lilnefie.blogspot.com/2010/05/tulle-flowers-tutorial.html)
Ok, originally I actually thought of making Minnie mouse ears to go with the red polka dot bow I had just made, but then I thought of the cat ears. To me a black cat is one of the main symbols of Halloween these ears are so easy to make.
I started off by cutting 2, six inch squares of black tulle. I use Celebration rolls of tulle which are 6 in wide which is why I picked that thickness. If you are using a different kind of tulle just cut a 6x6 square.
I then folded the square into a triangle by taking the bottom left corner and folding it to the upper right.
I then repeated this again by folding left to right to form a smaller triangle

Now that I had the correct size triangle I cut them into indivual triangles by cutting where the fold was, although I don't really think that is necessary. They are all going to stay together to give it the thickness so the ears will show up!
Next I cut 3 strips of ribbon to go along the sides of the triangles.
I pinned the ribbon on when I was sewing so I only had one loose ribbon to worry about at a time. Also make sure you pin your triangles together so they aren't slipping around while you try to sew! I accidentally skipped this step on my first ribbon.
I sewed the bottom ribbon first, then left then finished on the right side. Once you are almost to the edge of the first ribbon, place the next ribbon on top so you can so them together and then repeat when you get to the 3rd ribbon. Cut any loose tulle that may be hanging over the edge. Now youre ready to do all this over again on the next ear! Yay :)
voila! My 2 black cat ears. After that I simply hot glued them onto a black headband, or whatever you want to use to put them in your hair and this it! Happy Halloween!! Too soon?
